Some close Romanian friends have been telling me about their presidential and parliamentary election shock results. Welcome to the club. Bulgaria has had a controversial president for the last 7 years and 6 unsuccessful parliamentary elections in the last 4 years. The irony? The party which the others wanted to overthrow for corruption will most likely get back in power after a few more elections.
Instagram reels of some of my liberal friends calling Biden more dangerous and disobedient to international law and interests over Trump have caused a full circle of confusion.
The wars happening around the world are stirring all kinds of feelings and yet everyone is ignoring the blatant reason for them. It’s either the west, mainly the USA fuels these wars to weaken their enemies, or the enemies will soon start wars to weaken the USA.
There is no good or evil in this world. Just winners and losers. Often, being good is just a better strategy at winning, but if you are always good, you will eventually lose. This is why I tell anyone who I consider open minded the following – Unless you have a strong belief in something, just ignore the noise. There is nothing you can do about it. If you feel like taking a gamble, or you want a change in your life, then move to a new country. Easier said than done though, but worrying about what may happen is neither going to change the outcome, nor be useful to you or your family.
You may consider me apathetic, but caring without action (and no – sharing reels over the internet does not count as action) is just a feel good exercise with zero results. Usually done by those that cannot find another bigger purpose in life so they adapt someone elses but have too much fear to do something brave about. I am at peace with my position. The world can suck big time if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I’m going to make the most out of my lucky position, and so should you. Worrying helps nobody. It doesn’t stop wars; it doesn’t stop suffering. It actually causes more suffering – yours and those around you.
There are strong indicators that the world may go crazy in the next 20 years. Purpose-driven destabilization of the Balkans and Latin America. Banning of abortion in the USA (Army recruitment will be a lot easier in 18-25 years). Serbia is re-introducing compulsory military service. Weapons spend is at its peak. And this is just the things I have bothered to research, I’m sure there are thousands of other examples. At best, we get fear that leads to USA and the west selling a lot of weapons, solidifying their empire for a few more decades before the next big challenge. At worst, we get a world war for each new super power to test their shiny new weapons and get rid of unwanted populations.
My bet is on a cold-war type scenario where every country get’s a chance to briefly experience the horrors of war and remind everyone why it’s no good, while keeping the status quo more or less the same. That said, who knows, there is a growing distrust of the USA even within the EU. First the war in Russia which crippled European energy for the benefit of the USA, now the lack of support of the international court when it comes to their allies in the east and the growing destabilisation in the Balkans (wouldn’t be fun if we don’t get blamed for starting all the troubles eh?), maybe some crazy things could happen. I don’t see it though, the way of life of Europe and USA is too similar for such a major shift in alliances to happen.
It may seem strange that for someone who claims not to read the news, a few of my recent posts have been on war and news. The reason for this is to remind myself my own advice so that I can get my thoughts on paper and move on. There is also the reason that fear is a primal emotion and I do get intrigued by the power it has on people and the actions they take. This fear is what fuels extremism but also kills the dreams and hopes of others.
All this to say is I read the news only when friends tell me something has happened and sort of amuse myself at all the tricks and manipulation going on (and who knows how much more that I myself am too stupid to understand). Maybe one day I will have the just a little influence to help a few people escape the hell of injustice, but for now – my empathy is useless to them.
Live your life without fear. Don’t let these news distract you from your goals because bad news will never disappear and being able to function in the face of adversity is what will make you have more opportunity to make a positive difference to you, and to others.
