Yesterday I met a specific person who I reckon I had between 1 in a million to about 1 in 100 million to meet based on the circumstances of how we met.
The reason this person was so specific is because they indirectly told me a missing piece of a puzzle about my past.
Synchronicity events happen to all of us and they feel strange and divine. Mathematically, I’m almost sure that it is just coincidence based on the fact that there are thousands of potential events we would consider important enough to be a synchronicity and that we commit hundreds of events every single day. So even if something happens that feels like it should be 1 in a million or even less likely, that was just the one event that decided to happen based on the law of averages.
But mathematics bores people while synchronicity excites us so I will go with that. It also gives us a sense that something more important than us has some influence on our lives. This makes it more likely that we act morally and expand our view on spirituality, God and so on.
My view on God is that something probably exists, but I’m not sure it is the way that most religions express it. Possibly because if the way God is portrayed in the most popular religions today, I and most of the world are probably going to be burning for a while.
The reason why events like yesterday’s do make me believe in a higher power is more in the way that I react to them. The event should have upset me, but instead it made me laugh. It felt like I had learned my lesson from the past and someone was sending me a message to confirm that. Maybe that’s just what I want to believe but if it helps you, who cares if it’s real or not?
What does this have to do with self-improvement?
Spirituality, which can be in the form of religion, God, or any other personal belief system can give you a path or a set of values that can guide you. Whether you feel directionless, you have a difficult choice to make, or simply need some extra motivation to keep doing what you are doing, spirituality makes it simpler to progress in life.
We live in a world that has started to normalise shaming and ridiculing religion. I sometimes do it too which I’m not always proud of. But whatever spirituality system you adapt, do not underestimate the power it has to keep you taking action that helps you. For centuries if not millennia, one of the strongest drivers of people to act was various forms of spirituality. Not everything in life is logical or mathematical.
