Talking to a special person today, a question popped up – if you knew the world had 24 hours left, and you could only spend it with 1 person, who would you choose. Adding a time constraint, or a deadline can really fast forward choice making. And since the reason for most procrastination is the illusion that you need more time to decide something, adding deadlines to your life will lead you to a more interesting life.
Will you make more mistakes? Yes. But you will also experience and learn at a much quicker rate. A question such as what you would want to do before you died can help you discover things you definitely want to try. Keyword being try. A lot of times, we idealise certain things but when we do them, we find out it’s a chore. Most people rather keep the dream alive then find out it was just a dream. The problem with that is that you never let yourself move on and find the real thing.
Of course, we all want to believe that we regret nothing, even the stupid things that we do. But realistically, that’s just a cliché that makes us feel good. I know I regret that I spent and still spend so much time reading and watching shit on the internet and social media. I could have been writing more on this blog instead and become viral myself already.
My answer to the question is that if I died today, I would regret not writing a book. I would regret not taking learning Spanish more serious and I would regret not going to more waterfalls. And god have I seen many waterfalls but I can never get enough of them. The thunderous sounds of water crashing before you can even see it. The sudden temperature change and water droplets flying in your face or the refreshing feeling as you jump in on a hot summer day. All things that forever bring me satisfaction and a thirst for adventure.
As for the answer to the question at the start of this article? We chose each other. Sorry parents!
